This was as far as we went with the overt celebrations today, as we were far over our budget from the previous few days' activities, which were in themselves a celebration of our relationship.
We rose late and took breakfast at Warung Soputan. I was tempted to this particular warung as it has a roti stand out the front, and I was keen to get a fix of roti canai.
Roti jala and teh tarik |
In the event, I ordered roti jala out of curiosity. This turned out to be a kind of lace pancake that was cooked without browning. It was chewy and tasty and went well with the mung bean (kacang hijau) dal.
We had a relatively quiet day, which was punctuated by intermittent rain.
Aubergine curry and tempeh |
In the evening, I cooked up a gulai terung (aubergine curry) with spicy tempeh and red rice.
Terang bulan stand |
I have noticed that a cart selling terang bulan - the thick spongy pancakes filled with chocolate and peanuts - sets up each day at dusk just outside our accommodation. Having previously been taken by car to a shop called 'Holland', which specialises in terang bulan, the discovery of a source of the stodge on our doorstep is lethal.
Now for the condensed milk |
As it was a special day, we indulged in the fattening dessert. We ordered one with cheese (keju) in addition to the usual toppings. This added a delicious extra element, although it seemed less decadently buttery than our previous taste.
