Home Sweet Home

We woke up today at El Puma - the hotel provided for our post Inca Trail trek stay. However, I was excited to get back to our more longterm residence up on the hill in Tambillo.

After a hotel breakfast, we broke our walk back up the hill - my legs were complaining at the affront - with a juice at Café Punchay. Here the WiFi was free and fast and allowed us to complete some of the travel admin that builds up after a few days in the Andes without connection.

Come lunchtime, we treated ourselves to the post-trek meal that we had fantasised about but could not face last night.

Indulgence #1

At La Bodega 138, we ordered "la tejedora" pizza with extra mushrooms and aubergine. It was delicious and went well with the pleasantly spicy Maddock Capsicum IPA, as well as a slightly less well-balanced "imperial IPA" from Sierra Andina, named after the Inca king, Pachacútec.

Indulgence #2

Of course, our celebration wouldn't be compete without the indulgence in dessert, for which the insanely rich Nutella cheesecake fitted the bill very nicely.

Indulgence #3

Calves and knees came in for another workout on our journey home, but quickly fell into the rhythm of the past few days, navigating the incline through San Blas with relative ease. Maestro Florencio greeted us with a smile and a shake of the hand, and Onyx the cat meowed at our door to be let in, while the fire kept us company throughout the evening long after the capricious cat had left us.

A rare moment of stillness
