Relapse

K felt still a little off colour today, as though the bug that had forced her to abort the Inca Trail had made a sneaky return. Whether under the influence of a new strain or the tail end of the previous infection, she was not able to leave the house. After a morning playing a somewhat ineffectual nurse (the roles are almost always better reversed on such occasions), she implored me to go out and enjoy Cusco while we still had the opportunity.

Duly, I ventured down the hill with the intention of bringing back some healthy and restorative food for K. With an hour or so to kill, I made use of the WiFi in one of the many establishments in the centre of town which also, happily, dispensed a decent range of beer.

On my return journey, I tried but failed to procure 'take-away' soup from our favourite restaurant, Green Point, owing to a disconnection of the water supply to the general area. Take-away food is not typically available in Cusco - people either cook at home or eat out - so I raided Mercado San Blas for a few simple ingredients with which to conjure up a soup. A handy little  packet of pre-sliced vegetables formed the base of a broccoli and potato soup with ají amarillo (more for flavour than for spice).

The result went down well and K seemed to be returning once again to a normal state of health.
